History
Goddess Ahilya, who had turned into a rock due to the curse of Gautam Rishi, was rescued by Shri Ram in Treta Yuga. It is believed that when Maryada Purushottam Ram was going from Avadhpuri to Janakpur, he touched Ahalya who had turned into a rock with his feet and immediately she came back in a living human form. Since then, this place has been famous and revered as the place of salvation of Gautam Rishi's wife Devi Ahalya.

Ahilya Sthan is now a major tourist and pilgrimage place in the Darbhanga district. There is a lot of crowd here on the day of Ramnavami and Vivah Panchami. On the day of Ramnavami, even those people come here who have Ahila (a kind of wart) on their bodies. It is said that on the day of Ramnavami, taking a bath in the pond located here carrying a load of brinjal on the shoulder, and offering it in the temple relieves one from the disease of Ahilya.
A grand fair is held on Ramnavami
On the occasion of Ramnavami, a large number of devotees reach here from different parts of the country and Nepal. A grand fair is organized. A unique tradition is seen here on the day of Ramnavami. On that date, devotees reach here carrying a load of brinjal on their shoulders and offer it to Shri Ram and Goddess Ahilya. It is believed that doing so relieves one from diseases. You will also find female priests conducting worship in this temple.
A grand temple is built in Ahiari village
Ahilya Sthan is in Ahiari village located in Jaale block under Darbhanga district of Bihar. There is a grand temple here. This place is near Kamtaul railway station. It is 40 km away from Sitamarhi, the birthplace of Sita. At the same time, Gautam Kund is located in Brahmpur Western Panchayat of Jale at a distance of three km from Ahilya Sthan.
