Seeing this, Mother Sati became very angry and she went there to ask her father the reason for this insult. She asked permission from Lord Shiva to go there but Lord Shiva refused her to go there but Mother Sati's repeated requests. In doing so, Lord Shiva let him go. When she reached the yagya without being invited, her father Daksh spoke very ill of her and at the same time said many bad and good things about Lord Shiva, which Mother Sati could not bear and she sacrificed her life by jumping into the fire of the same yagya. Seeing this, Lord Shiva became very angry and he picked up the burnt body of Mother Sati from the fire pit and started performing Tandav all around due to which there was an uproar in the entire universe. Seeing this, people ran to Lord Vishnu, and then Lord Vishnu cut the body of Mother Sati into 51 pieces with his Sudarshan Chakra. Wherever these pieces fell, they became Shakti Peethas.
