Bangalore Fort

When it comes to historical places in Bengaluru, the first name that comes to mind is Bangalore Fort. It was built as a mud fort by Kempe Gowda I, the founder of Bangalore; it had nine big gates. After Hyder Ali captured it in 1761, it was strengthened with stones. However, most of this historical fort has been destroyed due to the waves of time. The fort once included Tipu Sultan's summer palace, his armoury, a temple, a church, a cemetery and even a school. You won't be able to see many of these structures today, but you can still see the Delhi Gate of the fort.

Tipu Sultan's Fort and Palace

Tipu Sultan's Fort and Palace is a historical structure in Bengaluru. You can step back in time when you see the fort and palace of Tipu Sultan. It is also known as the Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan. Interestingly, it was a part of Bangalore Fort. Let us tell you that it was Hyder Ali who started the construction of the fort. But it was completed in 1791 during the reign of his son Tipu Sultan. The entire palace made of teak wood is decorated with floral designs on the walls. A small museum is also located on the ground floor of the palace where you can see a lot from their crowns and clothes to old coins, paintings, silver utensils etc.

Mayo Hall

Mayo Hall is a memorial built in honour of Lord Mayo, the fourth Viceroy of India. It is a two-story structure built in 1883. It offers a beautiful view of Bangalore Race Course and Brigade Ground on one side and Ulsoor Lake and Parade Ground on the other.

Government Museum

This museum located in Bengaluru is not only a treasure trove of geological and archaeological artefacts, but it is also equally important historically. Established in 1865, this museum is counted among the oldest museums of India. The main attractions of the museum include artefacts from Vijayanagara and Mohenjodaro, weapons from Kodagu, rare paintings from Thanjavur, Mysore and Deccan and some early Kannada inscriptions. You can also find many historical musical instruments in this museum.
