If you also travel by train, then you should also be aware of the facilities provided by Indian Railways because Railways provide a special kind of service for women. With its help, your travelling by train will become even easier.
Lower berth facility
Women get the option to take a lower seat on the train. 6 berths have been reserved for women travelling long distances in Sleeper Class Mail Express. You get this facility in Rajdhani, Duronto and AC trains.
But keep one thing in mind you will get this seat only based on age and number of passengers.
- In sleeper class coaches, 6 to 7 lower seats are available for women. With this, five seats below in AC-3 are given to women.
- In AC-2, the 4 lower seats are reserved for women. But if 4 seats in these coaches have already been allotted to women, then in such a situation it becomes difficult for you to get seats.
- Apart from this, it is easier for senior women and pregnant women to get this facility.
- If you are booking tickets online, you get the facility to book seats by choosing the senior citizen option.
- Keep in mind that if you do not keep this in mind while booking tickets and someone clicks on the no-choice option, then he can avail the benefit of this facility.
- Women above 58 years of age get a 50 per cent concession on tickets in all compartments and all classes.
- If your ticket has been booked above by mistake, you can contact TC and ask for its change.
Facility for women to travel in late-night trains
According to the rules of Indian Railways, if a woman has to travel suddenly in the middle of the night and is forced to travel without a ticket on the train with her child, then TTE cannot deboard her from the train.
If anyone does this, women can complain to the concerned Women Railway Authority.
Indian initiative 'Meri Saheli'
This is a facility with the help of which women can travel on trains without any hassle. If someone is harassing you on the train, you can complain about it and get him arrested immediately.
The objective of this scheme is to provide security to women passengers travelling by trains throughout their journey.
