Durham County Cricket Club has said that it will speak in private to the former New Zealand pacer over allegations of physical assault by Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal on his head coach James Franklin. Earlier this year, in the podcast of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chahal recalled the 2011 incident. He was reportedly tied up when his Mumbai Indians teammates Franklin and Andrew Symonds celebrated that year's Champions League final victory.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, Durham said in a statement, “We are aware of recent reports of a 2011 incident in which a member of our coaching staff has been named. According to the county, the club will engage privately with relevant parties to ascertain the facts regarding any issues relating to our employees.

The tape was put on the mouth

In the podcast of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chahal also alleged that both of them had closed his mouth with tape and left him alone in the room overnight. James Franklin was part of the IPL team Mumbai Indians from 2011 to 2013. He was appointed coach of Durham County in early 2019.

Franklin-Symonds was drunk

Yuzvendra Chahal had said during the conversation, 'This is the incident of 2011 when Mumbai Indians won the Champions League. We were in Chennai. Andrew Symonds drank too much fruit juice. I don't know what he was thinking but he and James Franklin tied my hands and feet together and said now you open it. He was so intoxicated that he tapered my mouth and completely forgot about me during the party.

According to Yuzvendra Chahal, 'James Franklin and Andrew Symonds left from there. In the morning a room cleaner came and saw me. During this, he called some other people and opened me. Chahal is sorry that both the cricketers have never apologized for this shameful act. After that, a drunken player hung him down from the 15th floor of the hotel.
