The Indian Cricket Board has confirmed this. BCCI plans to launch women's IPL by next year, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has announced.

In the IPL Governing Council meeting held in Mumbai on Friday, it has been decided to have six women's teams in the IPL from 2023. Preparations are underway to host the Women's IPL next year. "The women's IPL is yet to get permission from the AGM. We expect the women's IPL to start by next year," said BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

Initially, it has been decided to include 5 to 6 teams in the women's IPL. For the first time, the owners of the current 10 teams in the men's IPL will be given the opportunity to buy a women's team. The women's IPL has been sanctioned. The competition is expected to start from next year. For the past few years, the BCCI has been preparing for the Women's IPL. The BCCI came under pressure after the West Indies and Pakistan hosted the Women's League T20.

In an interview to PTI in February, Ganguly had said that the women's IPL is likely to start in 2023. This was confirmed by IPL chairman Brijesh Patel.

The 15th season of IPL will start from today. IPL 2022 matches are about to start. The first match will be played between Chennai and Kolkata. The match will be played at Mumbai's Wankhede ground. The 15th season of the IPL is expected to be even more colorful as ten teams have joined this year instead of eight.
