Arjun Tendulkar has been around domestic cricket in India, but so far the 'Star Kid' has not been able to show his fans such a performance that the fans can be happy to see. Arjun has got a place in Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad for the 2022 domestic campaign. Now Mumbai's chief selector Salil Ankola has revealed the reason for giving Arjun a place in the Ranji team. Arjun was bought by Mumbai Indians in the auction ahead of the Indian Premier League 2021 (IPL) season. However, this all-rounder did not get a chance to play a single match for the franchise. There have been a few isolated performances in domestic cricket where Arjun has impressed the selectors, but the son of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has not shown much consistency so far.
Mumbai's chief selector Salil Ankola, however, feels that Arjun TendulkarHe deserved a place in Mumbai's squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy campaign as he was looking in good form before getting injured. Ankola told The Indian Express, “Arjun (Tendulkar) is bowling well. Unfortunately, he was injured in the middle, but after that, he did well in whatever matches he played. We have selected a team keeping in mind the future of Mumbai cricket."
“Unfortunately our fast bowler Tushar Deshpande is injured, but it is a promising team. It is a mixed team, where we have picked players from U-19 and who have been part of the Mumbai team for a few years." Last year, the Ranji Trophy could not be held due to the Kovid-19 epidemic. Ankola has selected some youngsters in the Mumbai team and they want to see how the young players are performing this time.
Salil Ankola said, "Unfortunately due to the coronavirus epidemic, red-ball cricket could not take place last year, but we have tried to cover all the areas. There are some young players like Prince Badiani, who did well for us in the Under-19s. We wanted to promote him and see how he performs on the big stage. We have seen that the U-19 players have done well for the senior men's team as well. "
