At that time Zaheer Abbas had organized a liquor party at his relative's house. All the players reached that party and everyone started drinking heavily. But Pakistani batsman Mohsin got very much intoxicated and started molesting the women of Zaheer's house, after which the Indo-Pak team beat him up a lot.
Hearing the sound of fighting, the local people informed the police, after which the players of both teams were taken to the police station. By the time this news came out, even before this, Fazal Mahmood took over the matter and saved the players from being insulted. At that time there were players like Gundappa Vishwanath, Kapil Dev, Srikkanth, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Ravi Shastri along with Sunil Gavaskar in the Indian team and all had to go to the police station.
