The performance of the Pakistan cricket team in the 2023 World Cup continued to be poor. The Babar Azam-led team failed to qualify for the semi-finals and finished fifth. With only 4 wins out of 9 matches, the team also faced defeats from teams like Afghanistan. Since then, the team has been heavily criticized in Pakistan, with Babar's captaincy and the performances of other players being closely scrutinized.
Although experts did not consider Pakistan a title contender in the World Cup held in India, many believed that they would reach at least the semi-finals. However, the team not only lost four consecutive matches but also became the first Pakistani team to lose five matches in World Cup history. There is widespread anger in Pakistan due to this disappointing performance and the players are being criticized from all sides.
Former Pakistani all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has also joined the criticism, not only targeting the players but also taking a dig at the Pakistan Cricket Board. During an event on Monday, November 13, Razzaq not only criticized the team but also made inappropriate comments about Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai.
Razzaq gave an example by appreciating the intentions of former captain Younis Khan, according to him, his intentions were good and he contributed positively to the team. After this, he raised questions on the intentions of the current Pakistani board and team and said that their intention is not to develop the players. Razzaq's comments sparked controversy and social media users criticized him for his inappropriate comments.
Giving his example, Razzaq said that former captain Younis Khan had good intentions and hence he was able to perform well for his captain and Pakistan. Then Razzaq raised questions on the intentions of the current Pakistani board and team and said that they do not have the intention to develop the players. Razzaq failed to control his tongue and said that if someone intends to marry Aishwarya Rai and then the children also become beautiful, then this cannot happen.
Even the former players including Shahid Afridi, Umar Gul, and Saeed Ajmal sitting near Razzaq started laughing loudly and clapping. However, social media immediately criticized Razzaq for his comments. This entire episode reflects the frustration and disappointment of the cricket community and fans in Pakistan due to the poor performance of the team in the World Cup.
