England all-rounder Moeen Ali and spinner Adil Rashid are expected to turn down the chances of making a comeback to the England Test squad. A lot has changed in the team after Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes took over as head coach of the England Test team. The team has done well under his leadership, but Moeen Ali and Rashid do not want to return to the Test setup.

According to The Cricketer, the pair were approached by England Cricket Managing Director Rob Key with a specific question regarding their availability for the Test tour of Pakistan in recent days. Moeen has objections about the combination of restrictions expected on the players and his busy schedule, while Rashid has expressed concerns about his shoulder and his potential workload.

In such a situation, it is understandable that both have indicated that they should not be considered for the tour. There is perhaps a glimmer of hope in Moin's case. He has agreed to speak to Test head coach Brendon McCullum in the coming days but it seems that if the New Zealander will have to motivate Moeen Ali, that doesn't seem possible at the moment. Moeen announced his retirement from Test cricket at the end of the 2021 summer season.

The pair of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum had tried to bring him back to the team in the past as well. Both the players are part of the team that will play seven T20 matches in Pakistan from next week and have also been selected for the T20 World Cup starting in Australia in October. England will also play 6 matches of limited overs cricket against Australia after the tournament. After this, the England team will again tour Pakistan for a three-Test series, where Test matches will be played in Rawalpindi, Multan, and Karachi in December.
