Today the Indian cricket team is one of the best cricket teams in the world. Indian cricketers are also counted among the richest cricketers in the world. But it was not so before. Once upon a time, Indian cricketers were very poor. There were many players who died due to a lack of money. Today we are telling you about one such Indian cricketer who died due to lack of treatment.

The cricketer we are talking about is Dattaram Hindlekar, who was born on 1 January 1909 in Mumbai. He played four Test matches for India on the soil of England. But due to lack of treatment, he died at the age of just 40. He was the uncle of Vijay Manjrekar and the grandfather of Sanjay Manjrekar.

Dattaram Hindlekar belonged to a farmer family. His father used to work in Bombay Port Trust for Rs 80 per month. Due to a paucity of money, he could not even buy gloves for himself. He used to do wicketkeeping with the gloves of wicketkeeper Kharshed Maharhomji. He came to know of his illness very late and did not get proper treatment, due to which he died.

Later, to help his family, the Bombay Cricket Association appealed to the people to help the BCCI. But didn't get much help. Then the Bombay Port Trust organized a cabaret dance on 6 August 1949, from which ₹7000 was collected, which was given to Hindlekar's family.
