The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is going to introduce the 'Impact Player' rule to make T20 cricket more engaging, dynamic, and interesting. With the help of this rule, the team will be able to change players in the middle match like in sports like football, rugby, basketball, and baseball. The BCCI first decided to implement this rule in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. If this trial is successful then we can see it being used in IPL also in the coming times.

According to the news of Cricbuzz, the BCCI document reads 'The concept is to allow a substitute player to play in the most active of the match in India. This will add a new strategic dimension to the game. It is allowed in many sports such as football, rugby, basketball, and baseball. The substitute player will be allowed to perform like any other regular player.

What is the 'Impact Player' rule

During the toss, the captain will have to give the names of 4 such players along with the playing XI which he wants to use during the match. Out of these, the team can give any one player a chance as a substitute. If a team loses its wicket early while batting first, then with the help of the 'Impact Player' rule, it can replace a bowler with an additional batsman as a substitute player. On the other hand, if the team does not lose many wickets while batting first, then in the second innings, the team can include an additional bowler in the team instead of batting one. However, the player leaving the field after the arrival of the substitute player will not be able to take part in the match twice.

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is going to start on October 11.
