In the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Dinesh Karthik was preferred over Rishabh Pant, but this wicket-keeper batsman could not impress with his performance. The second semi-final match of this mega event is to be played between India and England at the Adelaide Oval ground, which is to be held on 10 November. Rishabh Pant was included in the playing XI of Team India against Zimbabwe in the last league match just before the semi-final match. Now once again there is a debate as to who will get a chance in the semi-finals between Pant and DK. Former head coach of Team India Ravi Shastri has given his decision on this.

Shastri said after the match against Zimbabwe, 'Dinesh is a very lovely team player. But when it comes to the matches against England and New Zealand, seeing their bowling attack, it seems to me that you should have a left-handed batsman in your team, who plays the role of a left-handed batsman as well as a match-winner.'

Shastri further said, 'He has done well against England. Recently, he also won a match against England on his own. I would go with Pant, not just because he has played here before, but also because he brings in the X factor. He should be included in the playing XI in the semi-finals.

Shastri explained why Pant should be included in the playing XI in Adelaide. He said, 'You are going to play in Adelaide. The short boundary square is another reason why the team must have a left-handed batsman who can thwart England's bowling attack. If you have more right-handed batsmen then it becomes easier for the opposing team to bowl. You need a left-handed batsman in the team, who can be dangerous and even if you lose 3-4 wickets, he can get you back in the match.
