The first match of the seven-match T20 series between Pakistan and England was being played at the National Stadium in Karachi. England won the toss and decided to bowl first in this match. Moeen was captaining the team for England. Players of both teams also entered the field wearing black armbands in this match. Players from England and Pakistan wear black armbands in honor of Queen Elizabeth II of Britain. The 96-year-old Queen died on 8 September.

The Pakistan team wore a special jersey in the first T20I match against England to raise awareness about the devastation caused by the floods in Pakistan. The earnings from the T20I will be donated to the PM's flood relief fund.
