Shubman Gill has been in exceptional form in One Day Internationals (ODIs) in 2023. The talented Indian opening batsman has showcased his potential this year by scoring centuries in every format. At the age of just 23, Gill has proved to be unstoppable, especially in ODIs.
His latest feat came during the IND vs AUS 2nd ODI on Sunday, where he scored his fifth ODI century of the year. With an impressive tally of 1230 runs in 20 ODIs, the young opening batsman is inching closer to Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record of most ODI runs in a calendar year.

In 1998, the legendary 'Master Blaster' achieved a remarkable feat by scoring 1,894 ODI runs in a single year. Sachin's extraordinary performance included nine centuries and seven half-centuries, creating a record that has stood the test of time.
Meanwhile, Gill has already scored 1230 runs in 20 ODIs, making him just 665 runs away from surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's extraordinary feat. If we assume Gill will play a maximum of 15 more ODIs this year, including the possibility of reaching the World Cup final, he will need to score around 49 runs per innings to break Sachin's record.
Although it is a challenging task, Gill has a significant advantage as he will be playing on home ground in India. Being an opening batsman, Shubman Gill has a golden opportunity to surpass Sachin Tendulkar's record and etch his name in cricket history.
