In the first ODI World Cup, an Indian opener played such an innings that no bowler could get him out from the first ball to the last ball.

We are talking about Sunil Gavaskar, the batsman who played in the World Cup 1975. The ICC first decided to organize the ODI World Cup in 1975. Earlier only test matches were played. The ODI World Cup became the biggest tournament in the history of cricket. The first World Cup consisted of 8 teams which were divided into two groups. The teams of India and England were face to face in the opening match of the World Cup. At that time a match of 60 overs was played.

The first World Cup was held on the grounds of Lodges. In this match, the England team won the toss and batted first. However, the Indian bowlers proved to be a complete flop in front of the England batsmen. England team scored 334 runs in 60 overs. Chasing the target, Sunil Gavaskar and Eknath Solkar landed on the field. However, the Indian batsmen were seen struggling in front of the England bowlers.

Opener Eknath Solkar could only score 8 runs. Anshuman Gaikwad also got out after scoring 22 runs. Gundappa Vishwanath returned to the pavilion after scoring 37 runs. But in this match, Sunil Gavaskar played a marathon inning. No bowler could get Sunil Gavaskar out from the first over till the last day of the match. Sunil Gavaskar played 174 balls and scored 36 runs. He hit the only four during this innings.
