The Indian men's badminton team made history by winning the Thomas Cup for the first time in 73 years, beating 14-time title-winning Indonesia on Sunday.

India beat Indonesia 3-0. India was playing the final for the first time in this tournament. In these 5 matches, India won 2 singles and one doubles match. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the Indian team for this historic victory.

Won the match after losing the first game

Earlier, after winning the singles in the second match of the final, they won the doubles match. The Indian pair of Chirag Shetty and Satvik Sairaj Rankireddy lost the first game, then won the second and third games to capture the match.

Lakshya Sen won the first singles

In the first singles, Lakshya Sen defeated Anthony Sinisuka Ginting 8-21, 21-17, 21-16. In the first game, Lakshya lost 8-21 to Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. At one point the match was tied at 8-7, but then Anthony scored 12 consecutive points to knock the target out of the match. He took the lead by winning the game in just 16 minutes. After which Lakshya made a great comeback and won the second game. They won 21-17. After which the third game was also won 21-16 to give India a 1-0 lead.

Chirag Shetty and Satvik lost in the first game of doubles. Indonesia's Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjay Sukamuljo won the game 21-18 in 17 minutes. Chirag Shetty and Satvik Sairaj Rankireddy came back in the second game to beat Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjay Sukamuljo 23-21. After this the third game was won 21-19.

Pranoy won even after being injured

India's HS Pranoy reached the court in the semifinals despite being injured and led the team to victory. Both teams were tied 2-2 after the first four matches in the semi-final against Denmark. In the last match, India's HS Prannoy faced Rasmus Gamek of Denmark. Pranoy won the match 13-21, 21-9, 21-12 in 1 hour 13 minutes.

Team India lost against only one team

India's journey to the final in the Thomas Cup was fantastic. The Indian team suffered its only defeat in the group stage match against Chinese Taipei. The Indian team defeated Germany 5-0 and Canada 5-0 in the group stage match. The Chinese lost 2-3 against Taipei. The five-time winners beat Malaysia in the quarter-finals, while the 32-time finalists beat Denmark in the semi-finals. Denmark is the winning team of 2016.
