The Indian team has reached Bangladesh for the ODI and Test series. Bangladesh suffered a major setback ahead of the ODI series starting on December 4 with skipper Tamim Iqbal being ruled out. Now the Bangladesh Cricket Board has handed over the captaincy to Liton Das in his place. Liton has been named Bangladesh captain for the three-match ODI series against India at home starting in Dhaka from Sunday.

Tamim Iqbal's Test series is also doubtful

Regular ODI captain Tamim Iqbal was ruled out of the series due to a groin injury. He is also doubtful to play in the Test series starting in Chittagong on 14 December. Taskin Ahmed has also been ruled out of the first ODI due to a back injury. Liton has not captained Bangladesh in the first ODI but has led them in a T20 match in April 2021.

Lytton displayed leadership qualities

Jalal Yunus, BCB's chairman of cricket operations, said in a statement, "Litton is one of the more experienced players in the team. He has demonstrated leadership qualities. He has a sharp cricketing mind and reads the game very well." “Losing Tamim to injury for this crucial series is most unfortunate. Under his captaincy, the team has played some great cricket over the years and he has been our most prolific batsman in this format. He will be missed, but we also feel that Liton has the qualities to do a good job as captain.
