ICC has taken action against the cricket teams of India and Pakistan. In the Asia Cup 2022, on August 28, both teams were fined 40 percent of their match fees for slow over-rate in a Group A match. During this high voltage match, Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam could not complete 20 overs within the stipulated time. According to the new rules, if a team is unable to complete the entire over in time, it will be mandatory to have 5 fielders instead of 4 in the 30-yard circle during the remaining overs.

The Indian team led by Rohit Sharma and the Pakistan team led by Babar Azam had reduced two overs in the stipulated time, after which the ICC (International Cricket Council) Elite Panel's match referee Jeff Crowe imposed the penalty. Under Article 2.22 (regarding the minimum over-rate) of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Associate Members of the Team, if the team fails to bowl the stipulated overs within the stipulated time, the players will be charged 20 of their match fees for each over. A percentage penalty is imposed.

Both captains accepted the offense and the proposed punishment, so there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Masudur Rahman and Ruchira Pilliyaguruge, third umpire Ravindra Vimalasiri and fourth umpire Ghazi Sohail made the allegations.

Batting first, in the match played on August 28, Pakistan were reduced to 147 runs in 19.5 overs. In reply, India won the match by 5 wickets with two balls to spare, thanks to the brilliant innings of Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Hardik Pandya.
