Former umpire Asad Rauf, born in Lahore, Pakistan, has passed away. At the age of 66, he said goodbye to this world. He has died due to cardiac arrest. He officiated in more than 200 international matches. Apart from this, he also officiated in big tournaments like IPL. However, he was banned in 2013 as the BCCI found him in association with bookies.

Former umpire of the ICC Elite Panel, Asad Rauf has officiated in 64 Tests (49 as an on-field umpire and 15 as a TV umpire), 139 One Day Internationals, and 28 T20 Internationals. Rauf was one of Pakistan's finest umpires in the mid-2000s, having found a place in the ICC's elite panel in 2006. He officiated in the first Test in 2005 and was part of the ODI elite panel since 2004, having officiated in his first match in 2000.

He was a popular figure in the umpiring circuit who, along with Aleem Dar, had contributed to improving the reputation of Pakistani umpires before the era of neutral umpires, but his career came to a sudden halt in 2013 when he was arrested by the Mumbai Police for IPL spot-fixing. Named as a 'wanted to be accused' in the probe into the incident where Rauf was part of the umpiring panel.

The BCCI banned him and the ICC dropped him from the elite panel. After this, he was not seen umpiring, and shortly before he was seen selling clothes and shoes in a shop in Pakistan. He had distanced himself from cricket and stopped watching cricket in 2013. He had said that whatever work I give up, I leave it completely.
