ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Revenue India Economy: The International Cricket Council has released a financial report stating that the 2023 ODI World Cup proved to be the biggest cricket tournament in history in terms of earnings. A big disclosure has been made in the same report that that World Cup tournament has contributed 1.39 billion US dollars i.e. about Rs 11,637 crore to India's economy.
This event was organized from 5 October to 19 November in the year 2023. A total of 10 cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai were entrusted with the hosting of the World Cup matches. Direct investment was made in the World Cup by ICC and BCCI. Apart from them, the cricket associations of the states also made a big contribution to the Indian economy in different sectors. However, the ICC has not clarified whether this amount is the entire income from the World Cup.
Bumper profit from tourism
The cities where the World Cup matches were played have seen a huge increase in the income from tourism. Including accommodation, food, travel and transport, tourism earned 861.4 million US dollars or about Rs 7,231 crore during the World Cup. It was also a record that this time a total of 1.25 million or 12 lakh 50 thousand people came to watch the World Cup live.
The Indian economy has also benefited from foreign tourists. Rs 2,360 crore has been earned through the accommodation of foreign tourists, travel to different cities and other things. 68 percent of foreign tourists also said that they will definitely ask their family and relatives to come to India. Most foreign tourists spent 5 nights in India, while Indian people also stayed in a city for an average of 2 nights.
