In India last month, the Ministry of Health ordered genome sequencing of each suspected sample. The samples were asked to be sent to the lab of the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune. Between May 1 and June 23, 16 samples were tested, of which not one confirmed monkeypox infection.
