China is ready to work with the international community, including India, to get Sri Lanka and other developing countries out of trouble. Chinese spokesman Zhao Lijian was asked about Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's statement that Colombo had not yet received 1.5 billion in aid from China. "What do you have to say about this?"

Zhao Bijian then said that it would not be appropriate to say at this stage about the interests of investors as well as the protection of officials.

However, he praised India, saying that what India has done in that area (for help) is commendable. He has done a lot for this and China also appreciates India's constructive role in supporting Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Basil Rajapaksa, the youngest brother of Sri Lankan President Gota Baya Raj's party and former finance minister of the nation, also resigned from his parliamentary seat on Thursday. He will be the second person to resign from the Rajapaksa family.
