The rules of scholarship have been changed by the Uttar Pradesh Social Welfare Director. Universities and colleges of UP will have to take care of NAAC and NBA grading. The rules will become more strict from the new session 2025-26.

Government scholarships are given to provide better education to students from school education to UG, PG, and PhD level. Many changes have been made to the scholarship of UP. It will not be easy to get a scholarship from the new session in universities and colleges of Uttar Pradesh. Those above 40 years of age will not get a scholarship.

The Uttar Pradesh Social Welfare Director has made the scholarship rules stricter for students taking admission to higher education. According to the new rule, students above 40 years of age studying in colleges cannot apply for scholarships. However, research and doctoral students have been excluded from this.

Rules for scholarship in UP

New rules have been made by the department to maintain the quality of government colleges of UP. Till the last session, students of all universities and colleges were eligible for the scholarship. From the new session 2025-26, only those institutions will get exemption in scholarship and fees, which will be able to get NAAC or NBA grading.

The importance of NAAC and NBA grading is very high. According to media reports, 10 percent of higher educational institutions still do not have NAAC or NBA. In the next session i.e. 2025-26, only those universities or colleges that meet the standards of NAAC will get the scholarship opportunity.

According to the new rules, students will not get the benefit of a degree and scholarship without reaching college. From session 2025-26, 75 percent absence of students has been made mandatory. Scholarships will be decided in colleges for students through biometric and face recognition systems. The responsibility of the face recognition system has been handed over to Sriton. According to media reports, the expenses incurred for preparing the biometric system will have to be borne by the colleges and universities only.
