Many Faculty posts are vacant in Central Universities of the country. This information has been given by the Ministry of Education in response to a question asked in the Lok Sabha. The maximum number of Professor posts are vacant at Delhi University. After this, there are vacancies in other universities also.

There are 6,549 vacant faculty posts in 43 central universities in the country. The Education Ministry has given this information in response to a question asked in Parliament by BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy. According to the Ministry of Education, 1761 posts in these vacant posts are for the OBC category, 988 for the SC category, 576 for the ST category, and the rest for general category candidates.

900 posts vacant in Delhi University itself
According to the information given by the ministry, 900 posts of professors are vacant at Delhi University itself. DU has 248 guest teachers. Apart from this, 52 teachers are teaching Adhoc, while 1,044 are working on a contract basis. Of the 900 posts that are vacant in DU, 244 are for OBC, 138 for SC, 70 for ST, and the rest for the general category.

When will these posts be filled?
Regarding the time by which these vacant posts will be filled, it has been told by the Ministry of Education that there is no proposal from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to make ad-hoc professors permanent. The Ministry of Education and the University Grant Commission (UGC) have appealed from time to time to all the Central Universities to make recruitment on regular basis. Has been told by the Ministry of Education that the notification was issued in August 2021 for the recruitment of 4,807 posts in central universities across the country.
