In April 2019, the US Army selected five companies to prepare the FARA helicopter. These included AVX Aircraft (in partnership with L3Harris Technologies), Bell Helicopter, Boeing, Karem Aircraft, and Sikorsky Aircraft (owned by Lockheed Martin).

In March 2020, Bell and Sikorsky's designs were selected for the second phase of the competition. US military officials have called FARA the knife-fighter of future military aviation capabilities, delivering maximum performance in a small package.

FARA candidates will use the engine selected under the Improved Turbine Engine Program (ITEP). Performance targets were set with some restrictions, such as maximum dimensions for both rotor diameter and fuselage width not to exceed 40 feet (12 m).

The construction work of the 360 Invictus helicopter is 90 percent complete. However, the company has not yet disclosed its features. But it will be flown by two pilots. It will have only one engine.

The CEO of Bell's parent company Textron said its design would be based on developed technology. Its speed will be 330 kilometers per hour. One pilot will fly this helicopter and the other pilot will fire the gun. It has a four-blade rotor. It will have a 20 mm Canon gun turret.
