Project Director Col Parikshit Mehra said that after the completion of the tunnel construction work on the Balipara-Chardwar-Tawang (BCT) road for Rs 700 crore, it will be the world's first to be built at an altitude of more than 13,000 feet. The longest will be a two-lane tunnel. Work expected to be completed by 2022

The tunnel is being constructed in the Nuranang area. Distance will be reduced by 6 km

This tunnel is being built using the new Austrian tunneling method. With its construction, Tawang can be easily reached. This tunnel will provide all-weather connectivity. Colonel Mehra said the 1.55-km-long tunnel being built at Nuranang will reduce the travel time between Tawang and West Kameng districts by six kilometers and travel time by at least one hour.
