Indian Railways has issued a clarification regarding whether GST will be applicable on the cancellation of confirmed train tickets. Railways issued a statement, in which it said, "Following the instructions issued on 23rd September 2017, in case of cancellation of tickets as per the Cancellation of tickets and Refund of Fare rule, the total amount of GST charged at the time of booking will be refunded. is done."

The statement further added, "GST amount on cancellation charge and cancellation/ clerk age charge as per refund rule is retained by railways. This is applicable only in AC and first class. GST from the Ministry of Finance. is collected. There is no change in these rules.”

Charges on tickets canceled 48 hours before the departure of the train

Meanwhile as per the extant rules, if a confirmed ticket is canceled 48 hours before the departure of the train, a flat cancellation fee @ Rs.240/- will be deducted for AC First Class/Executive Class. Rs 200 for AC 2 Tier / First Class and Rs 180 for AC 3 Tier / AC Chair Car / AC 3 Economy. 120/- for the sleeper class and Rs 60/- for the second class cancellation charges per passenger.

If the ticket is canceled within 8 hours and before 12 hours

If a confirmed ticket is canceled within 48 hours and before 12 hours from the scheduled departure time of the train, the cancellation fee will be 25% of the fare subject to the minimum flat rate.

50% of the fare is deducted for less than 12 hours and up to four hours from the scheduled departure of the train till charting preparation. Chart preparation time is the chart preparation time from the originating station of the train or the previous chart preparation station.

Cancellation of e-ticket after preparation of reservation chart

For Normal User: E-ticket cannot be canceled after chart preparation. Users are requested to use online TDR filing for such cases and track refund case status through the tracking service provided by IRCTC. TDR can be filed as per Railway rules.

There is no refund of fare on tickets with confirmed reservations in case the ticket is not canceled or TDR is not filed online within four hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
No refund of fare will be admissible on RAC e-tickets. If the ticket is not canceled or TDR is not filed online till thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.


If party e-ticket or family e-ticket is issued for travel of more than one passenger, reservation of some passengers is confirmed and others are on RAC or waiting list, a full refund of fare, after deducting clerkage charges Will go
Confirmed passengers will also be subject to the condition that the ticket will be canceled online or TDR will be filed online for all passengers up to thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.
