Kalka Railway Station: Preparations for modernization of Kalka Railway Station

Indian Railway: Ministry of Railways is going to modernize 15 stations including Kalka and Mohali Railway Stations. These railway stations will be rejuvenated under the ambitious 'Amrit Bharat Station Scheme' launched by the Ministry of Railways.

A cafeteria and high-level platforms will be built

Chandigarh Railway Station is already developing on the lines of a world-class railway station. Kalka railway station is the starting point of the UNESCO-protected 96 km long heritage Kalka-Shimla narrow gauge railway track. Under the scheme, different grades will be made in the waiting hall of the station. In addition, a cafeteria and high-level platforms will be provided.

It was said that the roads at the railway station would be widened by removing unwanted structures. In addition, signage will be installed and station improvements will be made to ensure dedicated walkways, parking areas, and good lighting.

A railway official said, “Railway stations have been selected keeping in view their importance. Kalka station is the only railway station in Panchkula except for Chandimandir station which is very small in size. Mohali also has only one station. He informed that facilities for Divyangjan were started at railway stations last year, which will be updated from time to time as per the guidelines issued by the Railway Board.

15 railway stations of Ambala Railway Division were selected

Ambala DRM Mandeep Singh Bhatia said, “At least 15 railway stations under the Ambala railway division were selected to be developed under the Amrit Bharat station scheme. Apart from Kalka and Mohali, other railway stations include Ambala City, Yamunanagar Jagadhri, Saharanpur, Anandpur Sahib, Sangrur, Rupnagar, Nangal Dam, and others.

Increase in revenue

Ambala Railway Division has achieved more revenue in the financial year 2022-23 till December 2022 as compared to the previous financial year (2021-2022). In the financial year 2022-23, till December 2022, a revenue of Rs 2,253.61 crore was received, while with an increase of 11.29 percent, a revenue of Rs 2,508.14 crore was received.
