These petitions are related to Muslim girls. The Allahabad High Court has given an important decision regarding 'Live-in Relation'. The court, while hearing the petitions filed by two couples, said that 'live in relation' has become a part of life and it should be seen from the point of view of personal autonomy, more than from the point of view of social morality. A bench of Justice Pritinkar Diwakar and Justice Ashutosh Srivastava said that the approach to 'live in relationship' should now be changed.

no help from the police

The High Court said this while disposing of the petitions filed by two couples. These couples allege that the families of the girls are interfering in their daily lives. One petition was filed by Shayra Khatoon of Kushinagar and her partner while the other petition was filed by Zeenat Parveen of Meerut and her partner. It was also mentioned in the petition that the concerned police officers did not help them. Court cited the constitution

The couples told the court that their life and liberty were being ignored. After considering all the arguments, the court said that living in relation has become a part of life and this has been approved by the Supreme Court. 'Live in' should be seen from the point of view of personal autonomy given by the right to life under Article 21 of the Constitution of India and not from the point of view of social morality.

UP Police also reprimanded

Expressing displeasure over the attitude of the police, the court said that the police officers are bound to protect the rights of these petitioners. The court ordered that in the event the petitioners approach the concerned police officers and complain of any threat to their life and liberty, the police officers shall discharge their duties as required under the law.
