What is Yellow Nail Syndrome?

Yellow nail syndrome is a rare disease in which the nails of the hands and feet start turning yellow. Gradually the nails lose their shine and become hard and bend from the middle. This problem is seen in very few people and it can affect any age. However, this problem is mostly seen only after 40. The yellowness of nails is seen in people who are suffering from pulmonary and lymphatic system problems. Apart from this, this problem can also occur due to a lack of some nutrients in the body.

In these problems, yellowness is seen in the nails

The lymphatic system works to clean and sanitize the body. It keeps the fluid balance in the body. If it does not work properly then the lymph nodes become swollen, which is called lymphedema. Due to this also yellowness can be seen in the nails. At the same time, when fluid starts developing near the thin membrane present near the lungs, this condition is called pleural effusion. This problem causes respiratory disease. Due to this also yellowness can be seen in the nails. Yellow nail syndrome is seen in people suffering from chronic bronchitis, sinusitis, kidney, liver, fungal infection or psoriasis.
