If you want to keep the body healthy, then it is necessary to keep making continuous efforts to keep both physical and mental health in good condition. Physical and mental health are considered complementary to each other, a disturbance in any of these can directly affect the health of the other. Mental health problems are increasing rapidly all over the world, about which health experts are worried.

Experts say, often we take measures to keep the body healthy, but do not pay attention to mental health. This can be dangerous because many mental illnesses are considered to be the main cause of serious physical diseases.

Meanwhile, a shocking report has come out regarding mental health problems. According to this, more than one-third of the youth population in Singapore is facing poor mental health. According to a nationwide survey on youth mental health released on Thursday, one-third of the country's youth have admitted to experiencing severe or very severe symptoms of depression, anxiety or stress.

Health experts say, this is a very worrying issue. Serious symptoms of stress-depression become dangerous in many cases, which needs to be paid attention to in time.

What is the reason for this?

According to the survey report, one in every three youth (30.6 percent) between the ages of 15 and 35 reported that they are very troubled by mental diseases like anxiety and stress. This study conducted by the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) found that symptoms have been seen even more in youth who have been cyberbullied, who spend more than three hours on social media daily or those who are troubled by their body shape or any physical problem.

What do the researchers say?

This research was started in Singapore in the year 2022 to assess the state of mental health between the ages of 15-35, whose shocking reports have been seen.

Professor Swapna Verma, member of the IMH Medical Board and lead author of the study, says, compared to previous generations, today's youth are being seen more victims of mental health problems along with many other complications. Social media is constantly filling them with comparative thinking, which increases people's concerns about body structure such as obesity, height, complexion, hair problems. It has a negative effect on the mind.

The danger is increasing in India too

It is worth noting that the risk of mental health problems in youth is not limited to Singapore, many countries of the world are facing this challenge. Its risk is also seen increasing in India.

According to the data, mental health problems are also a major concern in India, affecting one in every seven people. According to the 2016 National Mental Health Survey in India, one in every 20 people was found to be suffering from depression. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, about 18.1% of India's adult population or 40 million people are affected by anxiety disorders.

What do experts say?

In a conversation with Amar Ujala, senior psychiatrist Dr Satyakant Trivedi says, these problems have increased rapidly in the last decade, after Corona it has increased further. The reasons for this are the lack of interaction between people over time, considering the virtual world as reality, and excessive use of social media. Poverty and socio-economic inequalities play an important role in increasing these disorders.

The most worrying thing is that there are a large number of people who have been suffering from mental disorders for years but have never been diagnosed. Even among those who know, many are not seeking treatment due to social stigma. NCRB data shows that cases of suicide have also increased in the country, this is a result of poor mental health.
