The increasing population has become a major cause of concern for the world. Due to population growth, illiteracy, unemployment, hunger, and poverty are increasing. The population increasing in lakhs every day has become a problem for almost all countries. It is a matter of serious concern that India has become the most populous country in the world, while China has slipped to second place.
According to UNFPA's The State of World Population Report 2023, India's population has reached 1,428.6 million (142.86 crore), while China's population is 1,425.7 million (142.57 crore). Based on the data, India is ahead of China by a margin of 2.9 million i.e. 29 lakh.
Although there are solutions like family planning to deal with the increasing population, due to a lack of awareness, the population is not being controlled. World Population Day is celebrated every year on July 11 with the aim of making people aware to control the increasing population in all the countries of the world.
When did the celebration of World Population Day begin?
World Population Day is observed every year on 11 July. The beginning of celebrating this day was decided by the United Nations General Assembly on 11 July 1989. By 1987, the world's population had reached close to five billion, about which countries started worrying. Therefore, deciding to make the citizens aware to control the population, the United Nations announced to celebrate World Population Day.
