The cases of mental health disorders are increasing rapidly globally. Health experts say that if you want to maintain overall health, it is important for you to pay serious attention to mental health. Without keeping the mind healthy, the body cannot be kept healthy. If we look at the data of the World Health Organization, it is found that an estimated 3.8% of the world's population suffers from depression, this includes 5% of adults (4% in men and 6% in women) and 5.7% of people above 60 years of age. For example, more than 280 million (28 crore) people in the world are suffering from depression.
World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10 October to make people aware of the increasing mental diseases globally and educate them about their prevention. Health experts say depression is a serious mental health disorder, and everyone should remain alert to prevent it. Running can be the most effective way for you, which not only provides relief from depression, but by running daily, you can also reduce the risk of it in the future.
Running habit will prevent depression
In a recent study conducted on how to prevent depression, researchers said that running regularly may be a better option than using antidepressants to improve the overall health of people suffering from stress or depression. Researchers at the Vrije University in Amsterdam say that making running a part of your daily life can not only benefit the symptoms of depression patients, but if you make it a part of the daily routine, it can also reduce the risks of mental health problems in you. This is helpful to me also.
What did the study find?
According to the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology report, 141 patients suffering from anxiety or depression were included in this study. The participants were asked to choose between running therapy or antidepressant medications. Of the 141 patients, 45 opted for antidepressants, while the remaining 96 chose running. The 16-week program yielded surprising results.
More benefits are seen in people who run
About 44% of participants in both groups experienced improvements in symptoms of both depression and anxiety. However, participants in the running group experienced improvements in depression symptoms as well as improvements in weight, waist fat, blood pressure, and heart function.
Researchers say such physical problems should also be given serious attention to maintaining mental health. On this basis, it can be said that the group which ran got more benefits.
What do health experts say?
According to a Gallup survey published earlier this year, about 30 percent of adults in the United States suffer from depression at some point in their lifetime. The global risk of depression is increasing, so we must adopt measures that can reduce the risk of this mental illness. Running can be the most effective solution for you in this. Even if you are mentally healthy, you can still reduce the risk of this in the future by making a habit of running daily.
