Why was this museum built?
This museum, also known as the Government Central Museum, is located at a distance of 10 minutes from Hawa Mahal. Albert Hall was established in the year 1876 during the visit of Prince of Wales, Albert Edward to Jaipur on 6 February. This building is named after him. But there was confusion about how to use this hall. Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh initially wanted to make the museum building a town hall. Some suggested keeping it for cultural or educational use.

But Dr. Thomas Hobbin Handley suggested that local artisans be encouraged to showcase their craft here. The then Maharaja of Jaipur, Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II, liked his idea and decided to build a museum in 1880 to display the artifacts of the local artisans of Jaipur.
