Trans Tea Stall opened at Guwahati Railway Station

  • A few days back, a tea stall has been opened at NFR's Guwahati railway station on Friday to empower the transgender community. The railway department is planning to open such Trans tea stalls at other railway stations as well.

  • Presently the stall is being run 24 hours on a shift basis. Along with snacks and cold drinks, traditional food of Assam is also being sold and bought in this stall.

Anand Mahindra and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav also lauded the opening of India's first 'Trans Tea Stall' on a railway platform. All Assam Transgender Association approached Indian Railways for this tea stall scheme, which also got approval. This tea stall is open on platform number one of Guwahati Railway Station. This initiative is also being praised on social media.

What is the move?

According to the report, Swati BidhanBaruah, founder of All Assam Transgender Association, said, “The main aim of the association is to bridge the gap between the transgender community and the mainstream society. We want to empower the community and make them self-reliant. Railway officials immediately approved our proposal after discussion and the stall was installed within five days after which the stall was inaugurated.
