There is still a lack of awareness in our society about thalassemia. Some genetic traits are inherited from mother to father. One such disease is thalassemia.

Thalassemia is a blood disorder that requires regular blood transfusions. Therefore, it is considered necessary to take a test for thalassemia instead of looking at a magazine before getting married.

It is important for children to be tested for thalassemia before considering marriage or having a baby. So that the disease is not passed on from parents to children. Mr. Satyasai Blood Bank of Thalassemia Society in Aurangabad is appealing for everyone to take this test before marriage.

The child of a couple with thalassemia minor may have thalassemia major. The main thing is that a baby with thalassemia major needs a blood transfusion every 15 days or a month for the rest of his life. Failure to do so may result in death.

What is thalassemia?

There are two types of thalassemia. One major and the other minor. Thalassemia is a disease in which the red blood cells in the body of young children are not produced properly. Similarly, the life span of these red blood cells is very short.

Patients with this disease need one unit of blood over a period of time. These patients are also at higher risk of contracting other diseases.

In the last two and a half months, ten new cases of thalassemia have been detected in Aurangabad. Awareness is spread through blood bank to prevent this.
