Breast Milk Discoloration: Can breast milk also indicate a dangerous disease like cancer? A recent incident has given rise to this question. In the 32nd week of pregnancy, Kate Grainger, a teacher by profession, found that the colour of the first milk coming out of her breast was pink. While usually, the first breastmilk is thick yellow. When Grainger felt the change in the colour of the milk, a doubt arose in his mind. According to the report in Daily Mail, the woman already had three children. She gave birth to her fourth child on 25 February. When the woman was suspicious about the colour of the first breast milk, she got herself examined, in which it was revealed that she had 'triple-negative breast cancer'.
What is triple-negative breast cancer?
Triple-negative breast cancer occurs when cancer cells do not have estrogen, progesterone receptors and HER2 proteins. According to the American Cancer Society, this cancer is more commonly seen in women under the age of 40, who are black or have a BRCA1 mutation.
What are the symptoms of triple-negative breast cancer?
1. Breast swelling
2. Abnormal skin texture
3. Feeling of pain in the nipple
4. Nipple penetration
5. Dry and flaky skin around the nipple
6. Discharge from the nipple
7. Swollen lymph nodes under the arm or near the collarbone
The American Cancer Society says that triple-negative breast cancer is dangerous. Because it spreads fast. Compared to the rest of the breast cancer, the chances of coming back after treatment of 'triple-negative breast cancer' are more. This is the reason why the survival rate of TNBC is low. Almost 10-15 per cent of all types of breast cancer are triple-negative breast cancer.
