Mental health problems can affect a person of any age, or gender. Health experts say, its risk is seen increasing globally. We all need to take care of the mental health of the individual as well as the people around us.

In recent studies, this problem is seen increasing rapidly among office workers. A study suggested that one in every two corporate employees in India may be at risk of some sort of mental health problem. Its effect has also been seen as gender-based.

It has been told in the research that the risk of this is being seen more in female workers than in male employees. Health experts say that all people need special attention on this side. If the mind of the employees is not healthy then it can directly affect their functional productivity. It is also harmful to their overall health.

The problem of poor mental health among corporate employees
A recent survey by market research firm IPSOS sought to know about the mental health of office workers. According to this one out of every 2 corporate employees is at high risk of poor mental health. The survey covered 3,000 corporate employees across eight Indian cities and 10 sectors including e-commerce, and FMCG.

The survey also revealed that nearly eight out of 10 employees missed work for at least two weeks in the past year due to mental fatigue. Nine out of 10 employees feel that their work-life balance has deteriorated.

Higher risk in female employees
The survey found that female employees are more likely to have mental health problems than men. 56 percent of women are at risk of some type of problem, compared to 41 percent of men. The main reason for this is that women employees feel that they often face gender bias and stereotypes about women's work.

Forced to work in adverse conditions
Psychiatrists say, there could be many reasons for the increasing mental health problems among employees. Work pressure, adverse circumstances, uncertainty about the job, and a comparative sense among people regarding their work in society can be the main reason for this.

What do experts say?
Health experts say that there is still a stigma around mental health, due to which employees are not able to share their problems. This increasing problem among the youth is very worrying because the direct effect of mental health problems is related to many diseases. There is a need to create a supportive environment in the office. This is essential for employees struggling with anxiety and depression to get a handle on their mental state.

Counseling should also be done for all the employees along with annual health checkups.
