Corona infection has been a global health risk for more than three years. Even though cases of infection are being reported less these days, health experts advise everyone to be alert about its risks. Long covid has also been a major threat along with corona infection, the risk of which is being seen in people even after a year of recovery.
The researchers found that many side effects of Long Covid can be serious and even long-term, for which all people need to be careful.
Researchers found that people who have problems with brain fog in the problem of long covid are seeing its serious side effects. The problem of brain fog can have effects like increasing your lifespan by 10 years. Scientists found that for people who have had this problem due to long covid for more than three months, the risk of its serious side effects is seen as the highest.
Long covid and the problem of brain fog
In research published in The Lancet Journal, scientists have alerted people about the problem of long covid and brain fog. Scientists at King's College London have tried to understand in a study how Covid-19 affects our brain capacity. It found that the problem of loss of cognitive ability was highest in those who had brain fog problems in long Covid for more than three months.
Some people are not feeling full well even two years after their first infection, with the long-term side effects of coronavirus seriously affecting their lives.
What did the study find?
For this study, the team of researchers included over 5,100 participants with symptoms of Covid and tried to understand their cognitive problems through a smartphone app. Researchers examined strengths such as memory, attention, reasoning, and motor control between 2021 and 2022 in the participants. In a cohort of 3,335 participants during July and August 2021, the researchers found lower cognitive scores in Covid-positive people.
Long covid is affecting cognitive ability
The team of scientists said that the health problems seen in people who are victims of long covid are similar to those who are 10 years old and above. Side effects of corona have also been seen in the growth and psychological abilities of the participants. Dr. Nathan Cheetham, lead author of the study, says the study did not see any cognitive impairment or brain-related problems in people who had fully recovered from Covid or who did not have long Covid.
What is the conclusion of the study?
Research lead Dr. Nathan Cheetham explains in the conclusion of the study, this study shows the need to monitor those in whom brain function has been most affected after Covid-19. Long covid has affected our health in many ways, people with lung-heart diseases are most at risk of brain health problems which all people need to be alert about.
