The art of Kerala Massage has been nurtured and perfected by the Kairali system, which is world renowned for its therapeutic values. It is not only used in the treatment of many diseases but also to rejuvenate the body and mind.

Dhara means 'flow' and here it specifically signifies 'flow down. It helps to open the channels of the body and mind, facilitating the healing of disease. In the stream, herb oil, milk or ghee is hung above the patient's body at a suitable height and kept in a bowl.

Oils are selected according to the imbalance of doshas. The bowl used in this is made of clay and has a hole in the centre of the base. After this, the oil is allowed to drip on the forehead of the patient. This is known as Shirodhara. This treatment directly affects the central nervous system and calms the mind. The combination of Dhara and Kerala massage helps loosen excess doshas, ​​or toxins, and directs their flow towards the organs of elimination.

Ayurvedic Remedies and Dietary Advice

Ayurvedic remedies and dietary advice all aim to achieve balance. Ayurveda advocates a diet that contains whole grains and enough fibre so that it provides enough to keep the digestive system clear of toxins and waste. Constipation and accumulation of toxins and wastes appear in the form of skin congestion, dull skin, blackheads and boils.

To avoid clogging of arteries and veins, the amount of fat in the diet should also be reduced. Along with good health, proper blood circulation is also necessary for beauty. A low-fat diet also helps in controlling weight gain. The diet should be rich in minerals, which provide energy and vitality. Minerals also help skin and hair.

Ayurveda says that we should take a diet in which animal protein is less, but vegetable protein is more. Protein is very important for the strength of the body. An excessive amount of animal protein can increase the toxins in the body and can also slow down the digestion process.

On the other hand, vegetable proteins not only nourish the body but also help in the efficient elimination of wastes. Spices like garlic, ginger, cumin, black pepper etc. help in the digestion of animal protein. Take a low salt diet. Excess salt retains fluid in the body and slows down circulation. Sometimes, it can make the face and the area around the eyes swollen. For the skin, a low-salt diet is recommended.

Fresh, organic foods are recommended by Ayurveda, to supply nutrients to the body. They not only contribute to good health but also give a glow to the skin. During monsoon, especially if there is excessive sweating, Ayurveda suggests some dietary tips:

Drink lemonade and ginger tea before and after meals. Finely chop fresh ginger root and mix with a pinch of salt. Chew it a little before eating. Drinking warm water with your meals can also help. A light diet and fewer spices are advised. Eat small meals.
