After the birth of the newborn, the responsibility of the mother increases manifold, because she has to take care of every small need of the newborn. The most important of these is to breastfeed the newborn. Breastfeeding is considered beneficial for both mother and baby. Where breastfeeding helps women reduce postpartum weight to postpartum depression. Along with this, the risk of breast cancer, diabetes, hypertension etc. is also reduced in women.

At the same time, breastfeeding acts as a protective shield for the baby and it increases their immunity. This helps reduce the risk of infections such as diabetes, allergies and childhood leukaemia. Even after knowing so many benefits of breastfeeding, women often avoid getting breastfed, because during this time they feel a lot of pain. So today in this article, DrRanjana Sharma, Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Apollo Cradle Royale and Apollo Hospital, Delhi, is telling you about the reasons why a woman feels pain during breastfeeding-

Unpreparedness

We all know that a woman should be breastfed after delivery. But still, some women are not mentally ready for it. There are various types of myths in her mind about breastfeeding or she is excessively conscious about her figure. In such a situation, she either does not breastfeed or is not able to do this process properly. Due to this, their breasts become quite heavy and due to this, they feel pain.

Not being able to breastfeed properly

This problem is often seen in new moms or first-time moms. They do not know how to get their baby to breastfeed properly. In such a situation, when the baby is not able to feed properly, milk collects in the glands present in the breast. Due to this, the breasts become hard and pain starts in them. Therefore, whenever you breastfeed the baby, hold it properly and its mouth should be at a right angle of 90 degrees so that the baby can breastfeed properly.

Don't breastfeed in the early days

After the birth of a newborn, it often takes one to two days for a woman's breast to produce enough milk. Due to which the woman feels that milk is not coming in her breast or the child is not drinking milk, due to which she does not feed. In such a situation, so much milk gets collected in the breast that only the breast and nipple become hard. Eventually, it becomes difficult for the baby to breastfeed properly. Due to this, the woman feels a lot of pain due to the milk stored in the breast. Therefore, milk should be started immediately after the birth of the baby. Even though milk is coming less now, but still you must have breastfed every two-three hours.

Not wearing a bra

This is also a common mistake, which women usually do. Most women avoid wearing a bra for the first few days after childbirth. This also becomes a reason for pain during breastfeeding. Actually, after delivery, milk starts to form in the breasts of women, due to which the breasts start becoming heavy. In such a situation, when the breast is heavy, when it hangs, there will be a lot of pressure on its ligaments and the woman will complain of breast pain. Therefore, during this time the woman should wear an especially well-fitted supported bra. This reduces the pain to a great extent.

Pain from a cut or infection

It is seen that when the baby is not able to breastfeed properly, often he tries to suck the breast vigorously, due to which many times the breast gets cut and due to this the woman gets a lot of pain during breastfeeding. Not only has this but due to the cut in the breast, the chances of getting an infection also increased to a great extent. Mastitis is one such infection, which causes swollen breasts in a woman. Along with this, it also causes pain and redness in the breast.
