If the passenger travelling on the train has insurance, then first of all you should contact the helpline or customer service of the insurance provider. Here you will have to provide the policy number, travel details and complete details of the incident.
When you claim the compensation amount given by the government, the insurance provider will help you with this.
Amount to be received as compensation
- If you are injured during an accident on a train, you get a compensation of Rs 2 lakh.
- If a person becomes partially disabled, he gets assistance of Rs 7.5 lakh.
- If someone becomes completely disabled due to a train accident, then he is assisted with Rs 10 lakh from the government.
- In case of death, while travelling by train, compensation of Rs 10 lakh is given to the family of the deceased.
Where can you apply?
- To apply for compensation, you will have to apply on the official website of Railways (IRCTC).
- Here you will first have to fill in the details of the passenger who was traveling in the train during the accident.
- While applying, you will have to fill out the travel ticket and required documents.
- Railways will have to investigate this within 15 days of your application.
