Scams are happening every day in the country. Every day someone or the other is being defrauded. The government is making every possible effort to stop online scams but all efforts are failing. Now an engineer from Bangalore has become a victim of an OTP scam. Rs 68 lakh has been withdrawn from the bank account due to selling old beds online.
According to the report, a 39-year-old engineer from Bangalore had posted an advertisement on OLX to sell his old bed. After placing the advertisement, a person called the engineer and said that he was calling from a furniture store and he was ready to buy the bed for Rs 15,000.
The furniture store owner (thug) called the engineer and said that he is facing a problem in making UPI payments, so first, send him Rs 5 so that the account can be checked. The engineer sent Rs 5 to the caller after which he returned Rs 10. After this, the swindler sent Rs 7,500 to the engineer but claimed that he had sent Rs 30,000 by mistake.
The fraudster sent a link to the engineer to refund the money and asked for OTP. After clicking on the link, the engineer gave the OTP to the person calling, i.e. the thug. After this, Rs 68 lakh was withdrawn from the engineer's account.
Let us tell you that banks, NCPI, and RBI are repeatedly warning people not to share OTP with anyone and not to click on the web links sent by anyone, but they are not taken care of, after which they become victims of fraud.
