The progress of medical science has made the treatment of cancer easier to some extent but it is still difficult for the common people. Treatment procedures like chemotherapy are not only painful but also cost a lot of money.
However, a team of scientists has achieved great success in this direction. The team of researchers has developed a drug that can help in destroying cancer cells. This is being seen as a success in the direction of easy treatment of cancer.
Effective drug of oral chemotherapy
Medical reports show that this medicine can help destroy cancer cells in the form of oral chemotherapy, the special thing is that it does not cause any harm to the healthy cells of the body.
In the report of this study published in Cell Chemical Biology journal, scientists say that with this one pill, hours of chemotherapy and pain can be reduced. It targetedly destroys only those cells in which cancer is developing. At present the drug has only been studied in animals and laboratory experiments, but it appears to have no side effects.
This medicine can destroy cancer cells
Health experts say that this medicine works to disrupt the cycle of cancer cells in the body. In addition to destroying cancer cells, this experimental drug may also help increase the effectiveness of other cancer treatments. According to the report, till now it has been studied only on rats and dogs, in which good results have been seen.
Regarding this study conducted by California Cancer Center City of Hope, the lead researchers say, this drug can potentially be very helpful in the treatment of cancer. We also believe that the results of studies conducted on animals don't need to always prove successful in the treatment of cancer patients, but the results so far are quite optimistic.
Drug study on 70 types of cancer
Researchers say, in the studies so far, it is quite effective in breast cancer, small cell lung cancer, and cancer that starts in nerve cells called neuroblastoma. Overall, researchers examined the drug's effects on 70 types of cancer, finding effective results in most of them. The drug effectively reduced cancer cells in mice with tumors caused by cancer.
Studies are being done on humans
The researchers said that the first phase of clinical trials in humans is underway. In Phase I trials, the dosage and side effects of the drug are examined. Research will be done on this phase for two years. The first pill of the drug (AOH1996) was given to a patient during the trial in October 2022. Studies are being conducted regarding its results.
The authors say – We hope that better results can be seen in humans also. Yet more future clinical studies are necessary to determine its efficacy for cancer treatment. If the results are better then this medicine may prove to have revolutionary effects.
