Health Issues: Women often gain weight during pregnancy. But according to a recent study, expectant mothers with normal or low body mass index (BMI) should not allow their weight gain more than 24 kg during pregnancy. This reduces the risk of getting sick to the unborn baby. Researchers led by Wuhan University studied more than 15 million pregnancies data to determine how much expectant mothers should weigh.

Adverse consequences from weight gain: Based on the findings, the researchers recommend that women with a high BMI should not be encouraged to maintain or lose weight during pregnancy, but should be encouraged to do so. Let them gain less weight over the period. The team concluded that moderately obese women should ideally allow their weight to increase by 8-16 kg during pregnancy. The investigation was conducted by Huijun Chen, an obstetrician at Zhongnan Hospital, Wuhan University. The researchers said that inappropriate weight gain during pregnancy can lead to adverse consequences.
