The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has taken a significant initiative to pass a resolution on multilingualism by India, which for the first time mentions the promotion of Hindi as well as other languages ​​in the functioning of the United Nations (UN).

The resolution, passed on Friday, said that the United Nations encourages the continuation of important communications and messages in official and non-official languages, including Hindi.

For the first time this year, Hindi language is mentioned in the proposal. The resolution also mentions for the first time in Bengali and Urdu. The initiative has been welcomed by TL Tirumurthy, India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

He said that multilingualism has come to humanity in the form of fundamental values ​​of the United Nations. Tirumurthy also thanked the UN Secretary General for this. The Indian representative said that India has been partnering with the United Nations Department of Global Communications (DCG) since 2018. The UN is providing extra funds to broadcast and mainstream news and multimedia content in Hindi.

Tirumurthy said the '[email protected]' project was launched in 2018 to promote Hindi at the UN, with the aim of promoting United Nations public notices in Hindi and raising awareness among millions of Hindi-speaking people around the world on global issues.
