Sitaraman's education
The country's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu on 18 August 1959 in a Brahmin family. Her father's name is Narayan Sitharaman and her mother is Savitri Devi. Sitharaman was very smart in studies since childhood. After completing her BA from Tiruchirappalli's Seethalakshmi College, she obtained a Master' degree in Economics from Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University in 1980. Later she did her MPhil.

Sitaraman's family life

While studying MPhil from JNU, she became friends with her classmate Parakala Prabhakar. Sitharaman and Parakala Prabhakar fell in love and both got married. After marriage, Nirmala Sitharaman moved to London with her husband. After the birth of her first child in 1991, Sitharaman returned home with her family and settled in Hyderabad.

Sitharaman's career

Nirmala Sitharaman started her career working in the post of Senior Manager. She also worked for BBC World Service. After returning to Hyderabad, she became one of the founders of Pranav School and later became a member of the National Commission of Women.

Political career

Nirmala Sitharaman's husband was associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2000, her husband was made the spokesperson of the Andhra Pradesh unit of BJP. During this time, Sitharaman's interest in politics grew, and in the year 2006, she also joined the BJP. However, her husband left the BJP the very next year and joined film star Chiranjeevi's party. But Nirmala Sitharaman remained associated with the party and was made the party spokesperson of BJP in 2010.

Achievements of Nirmala Sitharaman

Nirmala Sitharaman, who came into politics behind her husband, grew both in position and stature. Her role was important during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. In 2016, she got the post of Minister of State under independent charge. In the first term of the Modi government, she got the post of Defense Minister. In 2017, Sitharaman took oath as the Defense Minister. She holds the record of becoming a full-time female Defense Minister.

Sitharaman became the second woman Defense Minister after Indira Gandhi and the first full-time woman Defense Minister. In 2019, in the second term of the Modi government, Sitharaman was given the post of Finance Minister. She was the first woman Finance Minister of the country. Apart from this, she has been working on this post for 7 consecutive times.
