The history of 'Unakoti', situated at a distance of about 125 km from Agartala, the capital of Tripura, is associated with mythological times. The idols of lakhs of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are present on the hills located here. It remains a topic for researchers and historians as well. About which the conclusion has not been reached.

It is said that these idols were made by a person named Kalu. Who wished to go to Kailash with Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. But he got a condition that if he would make one crore (one crore) idols in one night, he would be able to go to Kailash. But in the end, when they were counted, one idol was found less. In such a situation, the sculptor remained on the earth. A small number in one crore is called 'Unakoti', after which the place got its name.
