The three-day Mahalakshmi festival, starting from Saptami of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month, is celebrated with great pomp in Maharashtrian families, a glimpse of which can also be seen in the Marathi society of Indore. Many Marathi families have been settled in the Rajwada and Cantonment areas of Indore since the Holkar period. Who has preserved Marathi traditions even today? Mahalakshmi festival is also one of these traditions, which is followed by 99% of the Maharashtrian families of Indore city.

In this festival, the idols of Mataji are decorated and installed, for which a divine mask is put on a triangle-shaped stand wearing a saree. Paddy like wheat and rice are filled in this triangle-shaped stand, which symbolizes the arrival of Lakshmi. Besides this, good luck remains in the house. This is considered a very important fast in Hindu culture.

These two goddesses are the sisters of Lord Ganesha.
By doing this, Mahalakshmi fulfills every wish and bestows blessings of wealth and prosperity. By reciting the lines ‘Mahalakshmi Aali Gharat Sonyachya Payani, Bhar Bharati Lekar Aali, Sarvasmriddhi Lekar Aali’, Mahalakshmi is welcomed into the house with great pomp and served. It is believed that the goddesses who come to the house in the form of Mother Lakshmi are the two sisters of Lord Ganesha.

Immersion takes place with Lord Ganesha
Who comes to her parent's home with her children and spends some time with her brother Ganesh and other family members. When she comes home, all the family members serve her well prepare different types of dishes and offer them to her. According to Maharashtrian culture, when Lord Ganesha is immersed for six days, he is also immersed along with him.

Getting good luck from turmeric kumkum
During the festival, beautiful rangoli is made at the door of the house and delicious sweets and dishes are also made. In whichever house Mahalakshmi is organized, all the family members and relatives come together and worship Goddess Lakshmi and women wear Navvari saree and makeup. They also apply turmeric and kumkum to each other and pray to Goddess Lakshmi for each other's good fortune.
